Which is better: carpet or carpet

The main difference between a carpet and a carpet is size. The first has clearly defined boundaries, and the second can be arbitrarily long and up to 5 m in width. But this is not all. When deciding which is better, it is important to look at the structure of the materials and their performance.

Distinctive features

Carpets are made of natural or synthetic fibers and are designed to protect the feet from the coolness of the floor. Sometimes they are used for decorating or additional soundproofing of walls. Being tied to key differences, these products can be conditionally divided into three large categories.

Carpet - a canvas of a size specified by the manufacturer with a pile and clearly defined borders. It happens two-sided, which is typical for manual work, or one-sided - more often with automated production. As a separate subspecies, carpets stand out - lint-free carpets with high aesthetic, but low heat and soundproofing qualities.

Carpet - canvas of unlimited length and width specified by the manufacturer. A characteristic feature is the absence of boundaries marked by a pattern. The pattern is usually used neutral, not interfering, if necessary, to adjust adjacent cuts to each other in order to create the illusion of a single whole. It is distinguished by high heat and sound insulation qualities, regardless of the length of the pile.

Carpet- arithmetic mean of the previous options. The manufacturer sets only the width of the canvas. But from the carpet she got the completeness of the pattern along the long sides. Most often it is made using technologies typical for carpets.

Pros and cons of carpet

It was designed as a floor covering that can be laid directly on top of a subfloor. This explains its structure:

  • pile - whether or not sheared, long, short, or layered;
  • base - the fibers of the pile are woven into it;
  • fixing layer - prevents the "creep" of the threads;
  • secondary basis - is responsible for maintaining the shape during operation.

The carpet is beneficial due to the absence of the need to lay a “finishing” floor under it, it can be laid directly on rough concrete.

Coating life is usually determined by pile. It can be made of artificial or natural wool, its mixture with nylon, polypropylene or polyester. The last couple of options are most popular because of their low cost and moderate wear resistance.

The shorter and thicker the pile, the longer the life of the carpet.

The purity of such a coating is maintained with a vacuum cleaner. It is important to regularly treat the entire surface of the carpet, since only in this way it will be possible to avoid compaction of lumps of dirt between the fibers. But even careful care is not able to replace washing and dry cleaning, which are not available due to the overall size and, quite often, reliable fixation of the canvas. Therefore, its service life is less than that of carpets.

Most often, the carpet has to be changed, not because of wear, but through heavy pollution, which cannot be eliminated without dry cleaning.

Pros and Cons of Carpets

Limited dimensions require the mandatory installation of a "finishing" floor. The canvas on the surface is not fixed, which is why it can slip on it, increasing the risk of injury. Through a smaller number of layers (fixing and secondary base are absent), the strength of the coating depends on the method of weaving its fibers. This increases the cost of production.

A carpet is always more expensive than an equal-sized cut of a carpet.

Such products are quite lightweight, which in combination with relatively modest dimensions allows them to be freely moved to any convenient place. And this is a chance to extend the service life.

The carpet can be dry cleaned or even washed on its own.

When choosing a worthy option to decorate an apartment, it is important to focus on its size - it will not work to change them. And this is a rather serious obstacle for those who want to cover the entire floor. For a small room, the carpet may be too large, or vice versa, it will take several products to cover a serious area.

To summarize

Choosing which is better, you should focus primarily on your taste preferences. The carpet is well suited for connoisseurs of large areas with a soft coating. It is ideal for a nursery, as it will protect the child from contact with hard and cold surfaces of the floor. However, you should not count on too long a service life. Especially when used in the hallway, dining room or kitchen.

The carpet is the best option for aesthetes who want to put "warm" accents in the room. Due to its relatively small size and mobility, it can always be sent for dry cleaning, which extends the life of the product. But this is a rather expensive acquisition, and the area under it will hide a small one. What does it mean additional time and financial costs for caring for the "bare" floor.
