Soundbar or music center: which is better to choose

Achieving clean, high-quality sound for playing music or movies at home is not an easy task. It is complicated mainly by the huge assortment of audio equipment offered on the modern market, because an ignorant person can get confused by the abundance in the windows of shops of various home theaters, music centers and soundbars of all shapes and models. This article will discuss which system is better: a soundbar or a music center.

Music Center: performance, pros and cons

Ordinary music center is an acoustic system with functions for reading audio files of various formats, as well as broadcasting radio. Depending on the dimensions, there are:

  1. Midi systems (high power and large dimensions).
  2. Mini-systems (medium power, small dimensions).
  3. Microsystems (relatively low in power, compact design).

A quality MC in any case looks and sounds better than any wall-mounted radio or tape recorder, as its design and technical characteristics imply a balanced and clear sound.

IMPORTANT! Not in all modern MCs, the manufacturer provides for karaoke, and if this is important for the user, you must definitely pay attention to the list of additional device functions.

The undoubted advantages of most high-quality music centers usually include:

  • multichannel audio stream;
  • really high-quality sound;
  • a wide range of models in different price categories;
  • the ability to work with "vinyl", cassettes and CD-ROMs.

Music centers have their own drawbacks:

  • MIDI systems are bulky and take up a lot of space;
  • high price of quality systems from well-known manufacturers;
  • inability to play 4K video.

Soundbar features, its advantages and disadvantages

Saunbar is a small oblong panel that combines the capabilities of both autonomous work with audio files and connection to a TV. TOThe design features of the soundbar suggest good sound due to the large number of speakers located in the housing at different angles. In modern models, you can find more than a dozen speakers. The classic soundbar also has a bass speaker that acts as a subwoofer. The panel is controlled remotely.

Most soundbars are small in size, which makes them an excellent technique for those who want to get high-quality sound at home without cluttering up the space with amplifiers and speakers. They attach the panel most often under or above the TV screen, making sure that it does not block the IR sensor.

IMPORTANT! Due to the design features, some soundbars produce better sound when removed from the TV.

Among the positive qualities of such a technique, experts distinguish:

  • small dimensions;
  • the ability to work with a large number of formats;
  • the ability to connect a subwoofer to enhance the low frequencies of the audio range.

At the same time, there are several qualities that prevent sound bars from gaining a foothold in the market as universal speaker systems. Among them:

  • dependence of correct operation on the diagonal of the screen on which the image will be displayed;
  • low sound power;
  • the inability to make the sound full and surround.

Simply put, the soundbar is perfect for family gatherings with movies (many devices can be connected to a home theater), but it is hardly useful to create a noisy party with a deafening sound.

What is better to choose for home

To summarize all of the above, it is worth noting that both the soundbar and the music center have their advantages and disadvantages. The choice in favor of a particular device should be made based on personal preferences and capabilities.

For example, for music lovers who have enough free space in the house, a mini or midi music center is perfect. If you don’t want to clutter up the usable area with sound equipment, but want high-quality sound, then you can opt for a high-quality soundbar with the included subwoofer. Fans of quiet evenings watching movies will have enough of the usual soundbar panel connected to the TV.
