Amazing sofa from the old fridge

A refrigerator is a rather expensive unit, and if it breaks, then they are trying to repair it with all their might. But if nothing helps, and the age of the refrigeration equipment is quite impressive, you can give this appliance a second life and make a sofa out of it.

Materials and tools for work

First of all, it is necessary to prepare materials and tools, for this you will need:

  • timber;
  • boards for the frame;
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • plywood;
  • fabric for lining;
  • legs for the sofa;
  • Staples;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • glue;
  • screwdriver;
  • Bulgarian;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • marker;
  • roulette.

When everything is ready, begin to manufacture.

Preparatory process

First you need to draw a sofa project. Sizing will depend on the volume of the refrigerator, as well as the height of the armrests, seat depth and some other parameters.

When the project is created, you need to pay attention to the materials used. For the manufacture of the lower part of the frame, experts recommend choosing a beam or sections of a profile pipe. So the frame will be more reliable and stable.

Reference! If a synthetic winterizer is chosen for internal filling, you need to purchase a loose and rather thick material. The sintepon from 20 cm will be the ideal thickness for a home-made sofa, otherwise it will need to be replaced quickly, and for this it is necessary to dismantle the entire structure.

As an upholstery, as a rule, it is used:

  1. Genuine leather - the most durable material, gives solidity to furniture, but is expensive and needs special tools for work.
  2. Dermatin is a budget analogue of the skin, quite reliable and stylish. Among the shortcomings - afraid of mechanical damage.
  3. Velor - soft to the touch, great as an upholstery, but has a significant drawback - it is difficult to remove stains.
  4. Chenill - the material is convenient for beginner furniture makers, since it does not slip and does not stretch, while having good wear resistance.
  5. Jacquard is a reliable silk-like material. During the selection, you need to take into account that the material slides and you need to make some efforts to make a neat lining.
  6. Tapestry is a dense material with a pattern. The disadvantages include the fear of direct rays of the sun, as the fabric quickly burns out.

Sofa from the old refrigerator: step by step instructions

First of all, you need to throw out all the unnecessary details and install some elements:

  1. A rectangular frame is assembled as a refrigerator holder, it is made of boards of the required size.
  2. Then, when the frame is made, it needs to be strengthened with transverse bars, as a base, a plywood sheet is attached to the bottom of the frame with screws.
  3. After the legs of the future sofa are fixed to the frame.
  4. The door is removed from the refrigerator and one of the side parts of the unit is cut off with a grinder. The top and bottom will play the role of armrests.
  5. Now the refrigerator needs to be fixed on the assembled frame, this can be done using self-tapping screws.
  6. After the whole structure is glued over with a synthetic winterizer, which is selected taking into account personal preferences.
  7. Next begins the creative phase of work. Using a sewing machine, you need to sew a cover made of finishing material. These covers, as a rule, are sewn after measuring all the elements (armrest, back, seat) of the sofa and are fixed on the assembled furniture with the help of zippers.
  8. An alternative would be to fasten the upholstery material with a stapler. This method makes it possible to fix the material exactly on the surface for a fairly short period of time.

Sofa refrigerator is ready. It is only necessary to put it in its place in the chosen room, probably even making a podium specially for it, since furniture made by hand is bound to arouse the pride of the owner and the envy of people who do not have this original piece of furniture.
